All rallies are PEACEFUL and JOYOUS. If possible, please carpool and bring your own signs.
The best signs invite people to change their minds, not just express anger.
Indivisible South Portland Weekly Rally
Join us on Saturdays from 11:00 am to noon at Erskine Park, at Broadway & Waterman Drive in South Portland by the traffic light nearest the Casco Bay Bridge. This is the easiest access rally in our area for people with walkers, wheelchairs, or other physical challenges. There is free parking near Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks or in shopping center behind. Indivisible Portland Weekly Rally
This is the largest public event in our area. Join their weekly rally on Saturdays from 11:00 am to noon at Monument Square, on the corner of Congress Street & Preble Street in Portland. Parking can be a challenge and is expensive! Click here for more information about this rally.
Calling Attention to ICE Presence in Scarborough
Did you know there is an ICE processing facility in Scarborough? We are protesting every Friday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Route One in Scarborough, just up the street from the facility. Staying safe is very important (see below), and some of us wear balaclavas with the words “NO ICE”. Signs may be available on site or feel free to bring your own. Please park along the shoulder of Lincoln Avenue on the side opposite the Holy Donut. Do not park in the Holy Donut parking lot or in any of the Hospice of Southern Maine (now called Andwell Health) lots. Local police support our being there, but it is important to avoid standing on private property. Indivisible Scarborough is co-sponsoring this with ITSME.
Knowing Your Rights and Staying Safe
In this heightened time of surveillance and unlawful enforcement actions, it is important to be aware your rights to ensure safe participation in events. Your digital privacy is also a factor to be aware of. Indivisible National and ACLU Maine have valuable information to share with us in the links below. In the end, there aren’t any tips that will completely guarantee your safety. Be equipped with as much information as you can.
Weekly Multi-Faith Vigils
The Greater Portland Interfaith Organizing Group holds multi-faith vigils on Wednesdays from 2:45 to 3:15 pm at Congress Square Park, at the intersection of High & Congress Streets in Portland. Each vigil is a clergy-led, prayerful gathering of solidarity and support for our immigrant neighbors, ICE detainees and all impacted by and involved in this broken system and situation. Signs are provided, or you can bring your own affirming these ideas. More information here.
Indivisible Scarborough Monthly Meetings
We hold Monthly Meetings during the non-summer months to keep our members updated on what is happening at Indivisible, both locally and nationally. They are open to all and we hope you’ll join us. Although our next Monthly Meeting is scheduled for September, during July and August we will be sponsoring special Post-Card Writing in preparation for the November General election. Whether they are local, state or national, letting your elected officials know what you think and how you feel is a vital part of democracy. We host postcard writing workshops on a regular basis and invite you to join us!
